Dark Future
Manual

Ranks, titles and the rest

Progress

Four separate ladders, and none of them can be bought.

Rank

XP moves it. Rank decides what every earner in the game pays you, so it is the one number that makes an hour worth more than the last one.

Crimes and OCs are what pay XP. GTA, the streets and Agency contracts pay cash and stats, and none of them move your rank. If you leave the worker on it runs crimes for you and pays 20% less XP than a crime would by hand, so the ladder keeps going while you are away, a bit slower.

New? Crimes pay triple XP and stats until you hit rank 4, so the first few ranks come quick.

Joined late? If you are a long way behind the top player you get extra XP and stats on crimes and OCs, up to double. It shrinks as you climb and stops 3 ranks under whoever is top. It does not stack with the triple, you get whichever is bigger. The crime page tells you when its on. Never cash.

Achievements

There are 382 of them. They are a mark on your record and they pay nothing. You do not claim them: they land the moment the game notices, a note slides into the banner, and an event goes on your Events page. Click either and it takes you to the one you earned.

They are on your Service Record, under Achievements.

Titles

204 of them. A title is a badge beside your name and you choose which one to wear. They come off what you have actually done, so nobody can be given one.

Education

7 degrees, 10 courses in each, so 70 in all. A course costs money and takes time, and the time runs whether you are logged in or not.

The first course of a degree is 1 hour and £ 500,000. The last is 10 hours and £ 10,000,000. Everything between climbs in step.

One course at a time. Not one per degree, one anywhere in the college, so which degree it belongs to is the choice. Every course also needs the one before it passed, which is why the long ones are at the end where they belong.

Every course pays something when it finishes: cash, stat points, boss training, gear, boss gear, a boss item or a car. What it pays is on the module list before you enrol.

What a degree is worth

Finish all 10 courses and you keep what it taught you for good. They show on your Service Record under Education perks.

Race Craft
You take 10% more from a race you win.
Automotive Engineering
A race puts 10% less heat on you.
Criminal Law
Every sentence is 12% shorter.
Economics
Crimes pay you 6% more.
Logistics and Geography
You are ready to travel again 10% sooner.
Forensic Countermeasures
Every chance of being nicked is 10% smaller.
Security Systems
You are 8% harder to notice.

Nothing here can be sold, given away or lost. Education is the only thing in the game that takes money and gives back something you keep.

Acts

Acts are the story, and they open in order. Act 1 is open from the start and a new one opens every ten ranks, 15 missions each. Every mission says what it wants on its card; the count starts when you take it. They have their own tab in the Service Record.

What opens when

You start with the crimes, the streets, GTA, the bank, trade and travel, your vehicle and garage, mail, events and your record. The rest of the menu shows up as you rank up, and each group tells you the next thing it will open. Once you have reached a rank it is yours for good.
